Ski to the South Pole (Last Degree)
After flying from Cape Town , South Africa , to the blue ice runway of the ALCI airbase near the russian Station Novolazarevskaya in Queen Maud Land , we fly to 89 degrees south and ski the last degree (110km) to the South Pole. In true polar fashion, you tow manageable sleds containing all your food and equipment (approximately 40-50kg). The expedition will take about 10 days on ice.
With temperatures between -20 and -35°C the cold is ever-present but comfortably so in state-of-the art cold weather clothing and equipment. You will experience twenty-four hour daylight so there's no shortage of time to really see and feel the true Antarctica .
We will ski an average of 15 kilometers per day to the South Pole where you are collected by aircraft and flown back to ALCI airbase and then to Cape Town.
You should arrive in Cape Town at least two days before the flight to the south because due to the unpredictable weather in Antarctica the date of the flight may change. Anyway Cape Town is worth a longer stay to explore this beautiful city and its surroundings. We can provide you information and help regarding trips and accommodation in South Africa .
