Antarctic Logistics Centre International, fully operational since September 2001, was formed due to an increase in the activities of Antarctic operators and agencies utilizing Cape Town as their gateway to Antarctica.
INTAARI (Pty) Ltd a sister company of INTAARI St. Petersburg, founded in 1989, is a well established Arctic and Antarctic Logistics Operator in Russia and Europe. INTAARI S.A. has access to specialised vessels and aircraft required in the Arctic and Antarctic and with 12 years of valuable experience of working in these regions has developed excellent contacts, and a comprehensive understanding of the research, in marine and aviation industries. INTAARI is currently the operator for the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI ), St. Petersburg, Russia fleet of vessels.
In 2004 one more company was founded and joined the corporation – The Antarctic Company (TAC ). TAC specializes in the marketing and logistical support of the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) and tourist groups to the Antarctic iterior. With managing personnel having more than 20 years experience in organising and leading polar scientific, filming and adventure expeditions both in Arctic and Antarctic, TAC provides a deep and extremely specialised expertise combined with an intimate knowledge of the polar conditions.
This combination of experience, knowledge and resources forms the foundation of ALCI.
ALCI aims to professionally service the specific requirements of all Antarctic operators, as well as establishing the necessary infrastructure and facilities to provide, maintain and service specialised Antarctic vehicles and equipment in Cape Town.
The forthcomming summer season October 2007 to March 2008, is to be a busy one. Twelve inter-continental flights are scheduled between Cape Town and Antarctica. The first 7 flights will be between the 31st of October and the 20th of December 2007 and the remaining 5 flights are scheduled between the 27th January and the 12th of March 2008.
ALCI flights from Cape Town and within Antarctica include all required safety and rescue equipment, all permits, licences and insurance and both aircraft and crew comply with all international standards on safety and operations, including article stating that " aviation activity in Antarctica will not be detrimental to the environment. " |
